I can't recommend this company to my nonprofit colleagues. Poor value, poor service and not worthy of your nonprofit's trust or reputation. So glad we cancelled and are now in the hands of an insurance company that represents the level of service we all expect and deserve.

Contacting an attorney! I was hurt on a property where the customers of Church mutual signed a hold harmless agreement, making Church Mutual liable for the accident. It took 3 weeks to get anything from the customer or the insurance. It took another month to get a check for my out of pocket expenses. Almost 3 months down the road, and the agent Jody has taken two vacations, but has yet to help with my claim and processing it. Worst insurance company.

My sister and niece were in a multicar accident about 2 months ago with a customer of Church Mutual. The driver was arrested on scene because he hit not only my sister's car, but also another truck head-on who had the whole thing on his dash cam. There is no question that he and Church Mutual Insurance Company are liable. Her vehicle was released to Church Mutual within days of the accident and they said they would take full liability of the tow, storage, rental and her vehicle.

It took them a month to determine that the vehicle was a total loss. For the last month, they have persistently asked her to sign off liability and have not paid the claim of ~$5000. Meanwhile, my sister is without a vehicle. This is rotten customer service and I would not recommend them to anyone. UPDATE: She finally got a check, but it will barely cover the costs she has endured in the last 4 months.

Twenty years ago when we first founded Cedar Rapids Zen Center (we're a Buddhist Temple), Church Mutual was about the only company who would insure an organization so small and new as we were. Since then, we've always had fine service from them. Our roof was damaged by the derecho that blew through Iowa in early August, and when I called I reached an agent almost immediately.

The adjustor was out a few days later and I received the damage report and the check about two weeks after that. We're now calling roofers. I've also had other interactions with Church Mutual folks and they've always been professional and helpful. We have to do an audit for our workers' compensation each November and my questions and worries have always been addressed with clarity and good cheer. I'd recommend Church Mutual to any religious organization needing insurance of any kind.

Our Church had to make a claim for a flood due to a break in our plumbing. Church Mutual was fast in getting an adjustor, quick to approve a local company for remediation and repair, as well as, very professional and courteous with every interaction along the way. Their agent, Jody, was very friendly and helpful. Thanks @ChurchMutual.

The claim, stemming from a hail storm on July 11, 2020, remains ongoing as of this writing. To date the claim service has been very poor. The claim handling structure is based upon outside independent claim handlers who haven't any Co. authority to resolve the claim. The claim flows through a chain of such independent adjusters who are quick to identify that they haven't authority on ultimate loss figures.

These independents either initially refused to provide the name/names of Co. representatives who had authority, or did so only after multiple requests. The claim was initially submitted by phone on July 15th. An initial loss payment was sent by mail on September 4th. The Insured was not notified of the payment being made. A further payment was sent to the Insured, on October 6th, again without notification to the Insured the payment was issued.

The latter payment apparently was lost in the mail. The Insured contacted Church Mutual by email on October 26th, at which time Church Mutual indicated a second check would be sent, and the Insured would be notified when that payment was issued to assure tracking of the payment. The second payment, as of November 2nd, has not been sent, or at least the Insured has not been notified it has been issued and sent. Moreover, the Insured has several times specifically questioned Church Mutual on the basis of the second payment which the Insured believes is not accurate.

Church Mutuals' repeated response simply is the payment is accurate based on information submitted, but fails to present why the Insured's specific figures which dispute Church Mutual's are incorrect if in fact they are incorrect. The sum of Church Mutuals' approach to claim handling is: Assign the matter to parties without authority. The claim handlers pass the claim through layers of handlers before it reaches Church Mutual staff.

Delay upon delay without benefit to the Insured. When payments are issued the Insured is not notified, and questions are rebuffed. POOR SERVICE! The author of this post spent a 43 year career in handling casualty insurance claims, and understands what good claim service is, and further what poor claim service is. Church Mutual provides that latter.

Fortunately, our church has never had to file a claim with Church Mutual, but, in shopping around for competitive insurance offerings from other vendors, we have yet to find any carrier offering comparable coverage with premiums even close to those of Church Mutual. In fact some brokers have told us that they are not aware of any insurance providers who have competitive offerings.

We have had Church Mutual for our insurance needs for quite a few years. When we have needed assistance in a claim, they were right there to help us and we were taken care of quickly. They are great about helping you figure out what you need to take care of for events to be covered properly. They have pamphlets to help you with ideas to support your organization to meet standards for the use of your facility and your care of your facility. Their price for their service has been great for us also.
