American Nuclear Insurers was founded in 1956 to provide insurance to the then emerging US nuclear power industry. With the world's growing commitment to clean, emission-free sources of electric power, the demand for new nuclear power plants and continually evolving nuclear technology will continue to grow - both in the United States and abroad.
ANI is proud of the role we have played in supporting nuclear electric power. Worldwide, nuclear reactors produce more "clean air" electricity than solar, wind, geothermal, and hydro-power combined.

ANI is a joint underwriting association that acts on behalf of member companies. We directly write nuclear liability insurance for nuclear facilities in the United States and assume reinsurance shares on nuclear business written by select nuclear pools and mutual insurers throughout the world. Most conventional property/casualty policies and reinsurance contracts contain a nuclear exclusion.
ANI's liability coverages are designed to satisfy the requirements of the Price-Anderson Act, a federal statute which established a framework for handling potential liability claims that could arise in the event of a nuclear incident. Facility Form Policy: This policy provides primary financial protection and is purchased by commercial nuclear power plant operators and several other nuclear facilities.
ANI engineers identify, monitor and mitigate potential nuclear liability insurance risk issues throughout the design, construction and operation of facilities we insure. Onsite inspections are conducted to protect the interests of member companies and re-insurers by reducing insurance risk and securing underwriting and rating information.
Contacting ANI via email is facilitated by the completion of one of our online forms. Selecting and completing the correct form will help us to ensure a prompt response from the best resource within our organization. If you are trying to obtain our inspection guidelines, your Account Engineer or Account Underwriter can help you with that request.
