Duxbury & Ray first opened its doors in 1935, and has been servicing local residents and businesses for over 70 years. Then called the Duxbury Agency, it was first owned by Thomas F. Duxbury until his son, another longtime Smithfield resident, took over its operation in the late 1940's. From that point until 1978, it continued to service the community solely under the Duxbury name, until it was incorporated by J. Theodore Ray of Smithfield and renamed Duxbury & Ray Insurance Agency, Inc.Since that time, the independent agency has experienced continual growth, prompting two consecutive moves to larger facilities.

Way back in 2006, I was a brand new driver with zero cash and an old junker. I went to D&R and sat down with Adam - at first it wasn't looking good for a monthly rate I could afford, but he called me in the 11th hour with an unbelievably low rate. I remember exactly where I was, watching Return of the King with a buddy, because it meant I could finally drive.
We played Gran Turismo on his PS3 to celebrate. Over 15 years later I'm back on the phone with Adam and he's helping me find my old RI license number so I can complete a difficult job application and background check process during a time of terrible economic uncertainty.
