Being an owner operator truck driver means that you pretty much run your own business, but haul other businesses cargo. Being an owner operator also means that you require special insurance coverage to protect your own vehicle as well as the cargo you're hauling regardless of whether you work under a permanent lease or under yourself.
Non-Trucking Use (NTU) Liability Insurance is for the Owner Operator who leases their truck for the long-term. Non-Trucking Use Liability coverage, formerly referred to as Bobtail Coverage, becomes effective when you're using your truck for a non-business purpose, such as driving to the store, picking up groceries or many other things.
Owner-operators and contract drivers who qualify as independent contractors are usually not covered by state workers compensation laws. This is where Occupational Accident coverage comes in. Occupational Accident coverage can cover an independent contractor for an injury sustained while performing duties associated with your owner-operator trucking business.

Four weeks ago, I was in an accident caused by a person insured by this company. I immediately filed a claim. There was no question of fault. I provided the adjuster with all necessary documents, including the police report. My car has not even been taken to a repair shop for an estimate of repairs. Instead, they sent an appraiser who spent less than two minutes taking pictures and declared it a total loss. From there it should be simple enough to settle, but I am getting nothing but the run around. Not even a rental car while they twiddle their thumbs!

These people are the most incompetent group I have ever dealt with. My car was hit well over 2 months ago and I still have not been paid because they can't get my information right. No one asked for my current address, they just went off my registration after I told them I didn't live there anymore. They totaled my car out and when I presented them. with the KBB value they said they don't go off private seller pricing just trade in value, which is unfair because my car is older and I know I could have made way more off it from a private seller.
They're rude, unknowledgeable, and disrespectful. I can not believe Enterprise rental cars uses this insurance they need to change that because the people who work there don't know anything about insurance.

One of their clients hit my car while it was parked. The total amount of damage was about $2,000. Repairs took one day longer due to something that their estimator missed. They are refusing to pay for the last day of the rental car. They have bought a lot of bad will for the $30 they would not cover. If my car was damaged by their client, they should make me whole, and I should not have any out of pocket costs.

Approximately 20 years ago I got tired of dealing with multiple insurance agencies and solicited estimates from 4 local carriers to handle ALL of my insurance needs. After careful consideration I selected RIS Insurance and have never regretted my decision. I have dealt with numerous agents within their office and can honestly say, THEY ARE THE BEST! Great service and personal attention at competitive rates I highly recommend them to handle all of your insurance needs.

THIS COMPANY GIVES INSURANCE A BAD NAME. during your service with this company you'll find that they are great at taking your money but terrible when they need to pay for the damages on your car. Even when thier appraiser gives them a quote to repair a car they dont follow it. Yes they sub-contract appraisers, ,, come on! who does that unless it a fly by night company. Is their such a thing as fourth rate insurance company? i am warning you guys THIS IS A BAD COMPANY!
