The "SR" in SR-22 stands for "safety responsibility." It is a document that proves a person has valid auto insurance that meets the state's requirements. Drivers are required to carry SR-22 certification for various driving convictions. Virginia requires a special Financial Responsibility Certification form for drivers who have a DUI or DWI violation, the FR-44.
