Progressive is a disaster if their customer is at fault. My son was driving when a very kind lady with Progressive insurance accidentally ran him off the road and into a tree. She stopped, called 911 and helped him until the ambulance arrived. She also gave the police a full account of what happened took full responsibility for not seeing him and cutting into his lane giving him the only option of leaving the road or hitting the side of her car.
She was great. Progressive decided to try to save a few bucks and only claimed 60% of the fault. What was there reasoning? Rain, since it was raining, they claimed he should have been going below the speed limit, even though this is not a law or even true. They also said it would have been better to have hit their customer? His car hit the tree totaling it.
He had recently put a new motor, brakes, rotors and tires. His investment was taken from him. There was nothing wrong with the car and the adjuster gave full value. They also lowballed the worth of the vehicle not taking into account everything spent on the car. However the claims people, that may get a commission for cheating people, only gave 60% because of the rain and or not hitting the other car that was merging blind.
He works 2 jobs and this was his largest investment. Progressive was betting that we would not hire a lawyer and pay those fees and drag it out for another measly couple of grand forcing him to buy a cheaper and much worse car. They are a huge greedy company that wants to save money by cheating the little guy. Do not do business with them. They will cheat you as well.
