I switched to Secura from American Family Insurance when my auto and homeowners insurance policy premiums went up way too much and my local insurance agent moved too far away to visit them in person if I did have a problem with the insurance company. I value having a local insurance agent that can have a face-to-face conversation with me about my insurance needs (too many companies have focused on the "high tech" approach and abandoned the "high touch" approach to customer service).
I had already switched my life insurance police to a local independent insurance agent with excellent customer service and he presented me with several option including a couple of different Secura Insurance plans. One of the things that attracted me to Secura is that my homeowner's insurance policy includes coverage for identity theft, which is very common these days, and my prior insurance does not include such coverage.
I cannot give 5 stars because all the plan information presented to customers is written by a lawyer somewhere and is not readable by normal people (non-lawyers). They really need to have a summary of policy coverage and any changes in coverage in "people language!"

If you are ever affected by someone that has Secura Insurance, get an attorney from the very beginning. They are aggressive and take advantage of people right from the beginning, when you are most vulnerable. The minute you find out you have to deal with Secura Insurance to deal with a claim, contact an attorney and follow their advice through the whole process.

My first accident ever and Secura has been very helpful through the whole thing. It was late at night and I was hit by someone and was still able to quickly get someone on the phone to get me a rental car right by my house ready to by 7:30 am the next day. They even followed through with me to make sure the claim I made with the other driver's insurance company was taking care of my car repairs quickly. They have also been great getting me help when broken down but really excelled when I needed them most, a bit surprising since they had a lower premium than most companies.

Promised a Ferrari, received a Pinto. Got this policy through a local insurance broker(PDCM in Waterloo, IA) because it was the best home insurance policy and bundled for cheap auto insurance. When we had home damage from wind and hail that included damaged siding, damaged screens, and damaged shingles. When they sent out their adjuster his estimate fell to $22 below our deductible, convenient.
We had two independent companies inspect the same damage and give us estimates at $9,000 and $10,000, both of which were rejected by secura. They said we needed another inspection done and it needed to be from their list of inspectors all of whom have some connection to a company called Haag Engineering. We instead read the fine print in our contract and realized that they were misleading us into thinking that we needed to use one of their people so we again got another independent company to provide another inspection and received another estimate in the $10,000 range.
After this Secura sent out their inspector from Haag Engineering who reported a figure very similar to the first guy. I would also like to note that this Haag Engineering is a civil engineering firm that doesn't actually build or repair homes, but instead seems to just report why and how structures fail, so how they actually know what it costs to repair a home is a mystery to me.
After it has become apparent that we would spend months in court suing this company for $10,000 and probably spend more money in lawyers fees that would be worth it we decided to just drop our policy and move on. I urge anyone reading this to not do business with this unbelievably shady company. Decided to repost this review as yelp apparently thinks that it isn't a credible review or something. I want my voice heard on how awful I was treated by this company!
