John McIntyre is a licensed insurance agent with over 30 years experience in the insurance industry. He founded ABZ Insurance in 2001, deciding to establish an independent insurance agency that would allow him to better serve his clients and meet a variety of their needs. He had previously been with Allstate Insurance for five years and also spent 15 years with John Hancock on the personal financial planning and life insurance side.

Comprehensive Insurance: Covers your vehicle if it is stolen, vandalized, catches on fire, is damaged by a falling object or from a collision with an animal. Collision Insurance: Covers you vehicle if it is damaged in an accident. Both comprehensive and collision coverage is subject to a deductible which is the amount the insured has to pay before coverage begins.

Dwelling insurance: This covers the actual structure of your home. Depending on the policy form selected, the coverage may be "all risk" except for specific exclusions. Personal Property Insurance: Covers the contents of your home including such items as furniture, clothing and appliances. If your policy includes "replacement cost coverage" covered losses would be settled without being subject to depreciation.

The owners of the building in which your condo is located has insurance, but it probably only covers the building itself from the walls out - not permanently attached fixtures, carpeting or rugs, other belongings or your liability for accidents. If your possessions are stolen during a break-in or damaged by a fire or severe weather, a condo insurance policy will allow you to recover their value. If someone is injured during an accident in your home, condo insurance will help protect you in the case a liability lawsuit.
