My mothers-in-law homeowner's insurance was over $2,200/year on a $90,000 house. When I noticed how much she was paying, I called and asked why it was so high, and why it wasn't bundled with her car insurance company (Progressive). They said it was because she had 2 claims in 5 years. This was true, although both were for just a couple thousand dollars.
As far as bundling, they said Progressive doesn't write in KY. Furthermore, they said they ran quotes with some other companies, and couldn't find anyone with a better premium than what she was currently paying. I went on line to Progressive's website and got a quote for around $1,200/year with nearly identical coverage. I guess it is true that Progressive doesn't write in KY, but they partner with Homelite, who does write in this state. Needless to say, we cancelled both policies with Pendery. It just really aggravates me that she was probably being overcharged for many years until I noticed.
