We manage each of our clients' needs by offering a wide variety of programs from self-funded to fully insured plans. We remain hands-on with our clients and continue to monitor the effectiveness of each plan through market analysis, employee meetings, and management consulting.

Southern Benefits, LLC was founded in 2005 by Dave Kay, who still oversees the agency today. Dave has over 24 years of experience in the employee benefit industry and is an independent insurance broker. We have other independent agents that represent our firm throughout the state, and each is licensed by the State of South Carolina.
If you are self-employed, or if your employer does not offer group health insurance, an individual or family policy may be right for you. Insurance companies are no longer allowed to exclude pre-existing conditions, and you will not be asked any questions about your medical history. Called to get benefit information, spoke with Kristy asked several times what my benefits were she would not give me anything but generic information. When I asked if she needed my ID number to look up my benefits she just told me it would be subject to deductible. I advised her I would like for her to look up my benefits by my plan and she still refused.
I DID have to get loud and then she started telling me I was screaming at her (thankfully I had many witnesses that heard the entire conversation from both ends) she is extremely unprofessional and pure lazy. She did not want to do her job and it's this way every time I call into get benefit information. She needs a lesson on customer service and general kindness. Bless her heart.

Been trying to get information on my father's pension benefit for 7 months and continue to get the run around. They won't tell me the amount and keep saying all information is in the mail, but I actually just get requests for additional documentation. At best they are terribly inept at worst they are crooks.

Worst company EVER. Constantly trying to get medical coverage paid and they continually deny what they should cover. Then when I am able or the hospital insurance agent are a le to get through, we do not get anywhere. I am still trying to get a car accident related care paid. So has the hospital for 3 years now. absolutely worthless insurance and I pay 800$ a month for nothing.

Worst insurance plan EVER! They deny more claims then they pay and most services are not covered. NO nuero monitoring for spine surgery( who wants to wake up paralyzed )Its kind of a big deal. Speech is not covered, because they say its not medically necessary for my child to speak. ABA for autism is not covered either. They denied my medical claims saying we were covered by another insurance (which was metlife DENTAL) so far this plan has wasted years of my life in phone calls and reporting to the Insurance Commissioner.
They get out of paying claims because it is a self funded plan. Too bad we have to pay for this plan that s useless and still have to buy a private plan for our daughter that costs us minimal $10,000 per year and we have to still pay 40% of her bills. I really would love to have a different option. IT financially killing our family. We work to pay medical debt and that's criminal.

I'm sorry we have to deal with this company. I called over 15 times about Cigna saying my daughter was not covered at time of service, but southern Benifits said she was and I know she was, but Cigna didn't have it correct in computer. Debra refuses to call them and correct it. Said it's not her job. Now my daughter got a collection notice! Cigna said southern benefit has to call them before it can be fixed! I don't know what to do since nobody will help me. This insurance has terrible service and has stressed out me and my family.

This is the worst insurance I ever had in my life. They continuously "lose" my receipts I send them for reimbursement even though I have a fax returns showing it went through successfully. I have to haggle with them everytime theres a claim. Even for the simplest things. Literally everytime I have a routine appointment I get sent a large bill and have to call them to find our why, then after jumping through a bunch of hoops they then process the claim correctly.
Keep records of everything you have and every transaction and person you spoke to. You can have an entire conversation with one person and call the next day and they have no record of it ever occuring.
