Insuring jewelry through Jewelers Mutual typically costs you 1-2% of the jewelry's value, per year. For example, a $5,000 ring may cost as little as $50 per year to protect. To put that in perspective, jewelry insurance can cost less than getting one coffee every month for a year. Jewelers Mutual was founded by jewelers determined to meet their own need for quality business insurance. We were literally founded by jewelry experts. Those jewelers later realized another unmet need - quality, expert protection for their own jewelry.

The old Jewelers Mutual was easy and great to work with. The "new" JM makes you go through a million hurdles to add a small item. "We want pictures, I take pictures, your pictures are not good enough, ok new pictures are good, now we want pictures of your safe that we already have, we want pictures of your alarm system that we already have. Then they send you a notice in the MAIL that the policy you thought you had in place is not active. They only email now, no personalization, no real human beings, etc. Long story short, i don't recommend if you have a decent amount of jewelry or watches.

Bottom line, they actually paid out when I sadly lost my engagement ring! They were reasonably responsive, but did take several days in between. And the process was not terribly arduous though there are some hoops. Most notably, it's strange that when you first buy a policy, let's say your ring is appraised at $10k so you ensure and pay premium on 10k.
But instead of just paying out 10k when lost, they instead go through a process of finding a similar ring and pricing that out. The 10k is just the max. So if your local jeweler can make the same ring at $8000, you'll only get $8000, and this is in the form of a gift card with the chosen jeweler. Mine ended up pretty close to what my policy was for, so no big deal, just some hoops, but it did feel like they were trying a bit to decrease the payout.
Which I'm paying premium for the 10k, so just be aware. Overall, happy that my claim was successful, and aside from the above, it was fairly smooth! Will insure other jewelry with them in the future.

Not great customer service at Jewelers Mutual. They overcharged me for my policy by charging me a second time, and its been over a month and they still haven't issued a refund. They told me they would get around to it by mid-May. I'll probably be cancelling this policy as I've gotten better quotes elsewhere and I don't like working with company's that charge you without authorization and then give you the run around and make you wait weeks to refund their own mistake.

We have had a policy covering my wife's wedding ring for two years now. We asked into a jewelry store to browse and to have her ring cleaned. The jeweler noticed one of the prongs holding the diamond had become loose and was a matter of time before it failed. The diamond would then fall out - possibly unnoticed in the moment and lost forever.
We asked if he thought this might be covered and he felt that probably not as it appeared to be wear and tear - not usually covered. Then I remember I had the Jewelers Mutual policy. I called the 800 number and filed the claim. Within a couple of days I was contacted by a claim rep (Danielle) who advised that it would be a covered loss with no deductible.
I had the work completed, submitted a receipt and a check was issued. What more can I say? They were great. And I'm a former claims rep. I know great customer service when I experience it.

My home insurer doesn't insure jewelry over $6k so I aske him where to go and he said he personally used Jewelers Mutual group for his wife's rings. I applied on line, filled out the forms, attached PDF of the appraisals and and it was a done deal. Painless. my only complaint (minor) is when I paused the application process to get the appraisals out of the safe deposit box I got an email a day bugging me to complete the application. Again, very minor.

I was trying to get some watches insured. Jewelers Mutual made me jump through hoops for over a month. I submitted receipts, then appraisals and photos and then appraisals and photos again! They will send an email and when you respond, it takes 3 days for them to get back to you because every response goes into a "basket" and not back to the agent who is asking the questions!
I spoke with several agents because the underwriter was confused and had questions. The agents would not allow me to speak to the underwriter. Then the underwriter closed my application via an automated response because I "hadn't submitted the requested information". I provided every single item they asked for. Thankfully, I found another company for insurance that actually wants my business.
And it took all of 10 min. So glad I'm not giving any money to Jeweler's Mutual! I've rarely encountered worse customer service. And this is during the application process - imagine if I had to file a claim? Ugh.

Not a company you can do business with for the long term. I had a few pieces on my policy. However, at Thanksgiving my ring went down the shower drain. We had plumbers cut open pipes, filed a police report with the New York State troopers, etc. We did everything JM asked us to do. The ring itself is still sitting in my parent's septic tank - it is still recoverable. However: Rather than raise our premium to recover the money to replace the ring - they dropped us via a mail letter. So, for a few weeks, my ring wasn't covered at all.
No phone call, no email - just a letter. We had planned to stay doing business with them and were happy to pay a higher premium, but this just isn't a company you can do business with long term. I'm really disappointed with the service overall. Wouldn't recommend them to anyone. What's the point of having insurance if you use it and then they cancel it?

I purchased coverage for a Cartier piece that was unfortunately lost somewhere in NYC. I filed a claim with Jewelers Mutual that was approved but apparently they pay Cartier directly instead of writing the customer a check. This would have been fine, but now the item's retail price has increased dramatically so I'm left on the hook for the difference. I'm not in a position to pay the out of pocket amount right now to cover the new price.

Tried to get an insurance policy with jewelers mutual. Got the quote looked good. Underwriter then denied the application. Only explanation was due to the nature of the things trying to be insured. Tried to get clarification. Took 3 days with multiple calls and runaround saying it was TransUnion that sent infor causing the denial (it was not) that the underwriter was at a training meeting for an unknown amount of time.
Then she was out of the office for an unknown amount of time. Then the policy changed so customers are now not allowed to talk to the underwriters directly. Finally talked to the manager of the underwriters. End result, Jewelers mutual is basically no longer insuring rolexes. They hem and haw and stick to their due to the nature and value of the things you are trying to insure we are unable to provide you with insurance. But end result. If you are trying to insure a Rolex don't bother. I've told my AD.

If you want to insure your jewelry this is the place to go. Go this for my wife's ring when I bought it. The cost per year to cost of the ring is absolutely worth it. My wife isn't the most graceful, so to be safe I wanted to cover it. I have been very pleased, anytime I reach out. Quick responses with all the stuff I needed. I will always recommend this company.

I lost my engagement ring. It wasn't the most expensive ring, but it was something he worked hard for. Claim filed through jewelers mutual and they want me to pay for a new ring and send them the receipt to reimburse me. It took my fiance a year to save for the first ring. I don't know what the point of their insurance policy is, but it sure doesn't sit right with me.
That's the point of insurance. We don't have the finances to purchase a new ring and wait on being reimbursed. It doesn't sit well with us. Please read the reviews on this company because if I had known this I would have chosen a different insurance company. This is not a place to go if you didn't buy it from a jeweler.

After purchasing a timepiece and a diamond solitaire, I was advised by our jeweler at Davidson & Licht to insure my purchases. Jewelers Mutual was recommended. Soon after reviewing premium costs, I applied for coverage. Soon after applying, coverage was denied based on the value of my purchase. Wanting a thorough explanation for the denial, I contacted Jewelers Mutual by phone.
The person I had spoken with stated that no specifics of the denial could be given other than the aforementioned one and she stated that I could reapply in 3 years. I will do no such thing. For those wishing to insure luxury item purchases, seek out a different provider. There is much disappointment with an insurance company which holds high prestige, yet denies coverage based solely on the high value of luxury items.

I've used Jewelers Mutual to cover my wedding band, engagement ring and ear rings. I'm so happy with the annual price for value, I looked into the fine print in great detail and am very happy with the coverage terms, and everything is so easy to update online. I no longer have to worry or panic about something happening to my jewelry knowing I have coverage and a company that specializes in jewelry to give me peace of mind. Also, the annual rates remain competitive and affordable. I'm always nervous to see my new insurance rates each year, but Jewelers Mutual has remained very fair in their pricing year after year.

This was probably the best jewelry and watch insurance company in 1980, but they have not updated their website or support since then, and it shows. If you want to add or remove an item, you have to go through an arduous process to do that. If an item appreciates, you need to pay for a new appraisal (when competing companies, like Chubb, do not require that).
Their support is lackluster for the luxury industry they're supposed to be in. Separately, their underwriting is flawed. I have a high-700s credit score, and got declined for adding another item to our policy because of recent inquiries (we just bought a new house). Canceling our policy and moving everything to Chubb.

I had my insurance with the company for a couple years with one policy. The service was good then I canceled it as I no longer needed it. I then opened another account with my wedding jewelry. Had it for one year and when the year was finished and time to pay for the next year-I was having a baby. When I got to the opportunity ( only six days late to pay my bill ) they tacked on several fees amounting to half of the policies yearly rate, which appeared to sound like a scam.
The amount insured was very low to begin with. I spoke to 3 reps for assistance and the BBB and they were unwavering. As a journalist and publicist I've worked with many companies over the years and never witnessed this lack of customer service. No understanding or effort to retain the client whatsoever. On principle alone, I couldn't proceed any further. It's a shame that this behavior is acceptable.

I cannot say enough good things about this company. After suffering a loss/theft, they made the entire process seamless. The communication between claims and the replacement jeweler was amazing. If you need insurance and piece of mind for your expensive jewelry, this is absolutely the company to go to! Thank you again JM for making me whole!

I have been with JM since early 2017 and have covered almost $100K worth of watches and jewelry., I have not filed one single claim and I've been paying them $2,500 per year for years now. Today, instead of receiving approval for my BRAND NEW Yachmaster II purchase from a very reputable company in Philadelphia, Govberg Jewelers with an appraisal from them that included a photo, I was informed that I need to download their photo app and take photos using that app.
If I didn't do so within their specified deadline, my application would be closed. So after three years with them and after they've accepted the appraisals and photos I've uploaded in the past of watches worth double (Including a $52K Patek) now they suddenly don't trust me? This app required me to use location services so they can verify my home address.
They require a front photo and a side photo and I took a photo of my safe as well. Why? To make sure I'm not committing fraud? Very insulting. I was very close to cancelling my policy. This is not customer service. This is a change that benefits them and intrudes on my privacy and wastes my time. Something they obviously don't value. One more strike and I'm out.
I do see the value of second chances, however. So I'm going to stay with them and see what happens. If they treat me like a valued customer, I'll revise this review and and a star or two, If not, I'm cancelling the policy and downgrading the review to one star.

Terrible experience with their online support. I felt that their premium was way too high for my ring. They had the value set almost double the value of the ring AND for 3 years! So I called to see how we could get that number down. AND submitted new appraisal. Dealt with 5 different agents over the course of a week trying to get a new policy. Each time I dealt with an agent I had a completely different premium dollar amount.
There was one amount that I thought was good and when talking to the next agent, she told me it was a clerical error and that amount was how much I would save.not the premium. UGH. Crossing my fingers that I get next set of paperwork with the correct terms. I will say that their agents were very professional; however, they are desperately in need of training. I still can't believe I was quoted 5 different amounts!

20 years my company is insured in this company! I have never filed a claim for damages or anything else. But once when I filed a claim for damages for my company by another completely compensatory factor, it was insulting and completely insensitive. Beyond that, any attempt to obtain adequate compensation to cover the damage sustained by a hostile and opaque wall (they only know how to take payments to give it another opera already) I learned the lesson! I am no longer insured in this company

I don't typically leave reviews but this company disappointed me to the point I needed to say something. I submitted an application through Geico for about $25K worth of jewelry and was denied coverage due to my credit not meeting their standards. I have a credit score of 830 and and 0 demerits. I'd like to now what their standard might be but most of all the real reason they're denying me coverage. Travel could be the culprit as evidence by other reviewers, but then why not say so

I applied for a policy and it was denied because I wrote in my application that I travel, BUT it did not specify if my plan was to take the jewelry with me. I DO NOT wish to take my jewelry internationally but for that reason I was denied. I spoke to the underwriter about this and mentioned that my plan is to wear this for parties / events domestically which is very infrequent but that was not enough.
She said that my home is also not secure which I found VERY offensive. Should I have lied and said I don't travel at all and I work from home? Of course I love to travel, but that does not mean I wish to travel with my jewelry and I mentioned that if I do travel, that I use the hotel safe. I am as responsible and neurotic with my prized possessions as anybody can be. Shame Shame Shame on Jeweler's Mutual.
Maybe the CEO will see this and try to win back some business. I wanted to follow up and say that I got insured with Statefarm and the cost was ONE THIRD of what Jewelers Mutual quoted me, and I AM ALLOWED to TRAVEL wherever and whenever I want with my jewelry. :-

I cannot say enough good things about my experience with JM insurance. From the time I realized my ring was gone until I had a new one it was less than 10 days with $0 deductible. I was allowed to work with a local jeweler that I trust for the replacement and it was seamless. Shortly after my claim was processed my policy was cancelled. I reached out to them and asked what I could do to get my policy reinstated.
They evaluated a few things and within a couple of weeks my policy was reinstated. I have used them for 5 years and continue to add things to my policy when I acquire a new piece. I was even able to add an expensive watch I gave my father for Christmas even though he lives in another state than I do. Just a handful more questions. You will not regret insuring with Jewelers Mutual.

I lost my engagement ring after about 4 years (I have no idea where it went, I just couldn't find it anymore. We turned the house upside down looking for it for 3 months before accepting that it was lost) and had to file a claim to get a replacement. I had insurance coverage via JM the whole time. I followed the online process, they reached out via email with next steps and asked me and my partner to write a written statement, a police report, and the contact info of the jeweler I wanted to work with.
They let me select my jeweler and worked directly with her for the details on the replacement ring. We changed up the shape and size of the main diamond and they were accommodating. At the end I did have to pay a little more to get the diamond I wanted but it seemed reasonable as I got a diamond that was slightly bigger and nicer quality. It was a high value item, probably the most expensive thing I own since I've sold my home and I was worried I was going to have to fight them for a replacement.
I was pleasantly surprised at how easy the process was, and was not denied new coverage. I applied for new insurance before I even left my jeweler's studio and it was approved a few days later. I love my new ring and I'm a customer for life! Thanks JM!

Saw on blog good for Rolex, I guess that was before or they write their own reviews. 1. Stated Watch has a high loss factor. Its a Rolex, so I guess they do not insure Rolexs. 2. Said low credit, mine was 700. 3. Said low security in house. I have my own security cameras, live alone, and have a German Shepard. So basically they do not want to insure you unless you have 0% chance of needing insurance. Horrible! Kamran Mirza
