Builders Mutual has provided uninterrupted insurance coverage to the home building industry for more than 30 years. In 1984, the company grew out of the North Carolina Home Builders Association to provide workers' compensation to eligible members. Since then, our lines of coverage have expanded and our territory has broadened, but our focus has remained the same.

We have a new workers comp policy with Builders Mutual. I'm only one month in and don't know how we'll make it through the year. I can't even reach customer service because they're in a "meeting to improve our service". Was told I'd get a call back within 24 hours while I'm in the middle of trying to pay my bill by self-entering payroll only to learn that nothing I've entered can be saved and I will have to enter it all again when/if I get a call back from customer service. Our COIs have had to be revised as many as 5 times for some of our general contractors. Very poor service.

If you happen to get into a car accident with someone who has coverage with this company & it's THEIR FAULT don't expect to have ANY results for AT LEAST 1 1/2 weeks & you can't speak with anyone on the weekends/after 5pm Mon-Thurs & after 2pm on Fridays! MY insurance company had everything sorted out within 36 hours this time & any other time I had to file a claim or had a problem. I have NO IDEA what they are like with other area's of coverage but I can't imagine it's any different.

I dont' recommend doing any business with these people. We had worker's comp through them and they burnt us a new one. We had to pay for a temp worker that was being covered under the temp agency. Do yourself a favor and search somewhere else, you really don't need this headache. They twist things to suit them, buyer beware.

Never under any circumstance use this company for your workman's comp or general liability needs. I've been waiting on a refund for 3 months due to overpayment. Every time you speak with them nothing but excuses. I filed a complaint today with the insurance commission. I'm very thankful I never had to file a claim with them because I'm sure it would have been a huge pack of lies.

I had workman's comp policy with them and cancel the policy after the first year. They came and did a audit and said that they I most likely would get a refund. 30 days later I get a bill for the amount of the refund. First week of January we find out that my fiance has stage 3 breast cancer and we spend the next 3 months on testing, surgeries and chemo and the bill went to collection.
I talk to the guy in collections and than called Builder mutual and they refused to show me proof that I owed the bill because it was in collections. I ask for their legal department and the guy said they didn't have one. This is very poor preforming company when it comes to customer service when people have to turn their attention to trying to save someone with breast cancer. I would not recommend this company and have turned this over to my attorney because I suspect fraud because they won't produce the audit.
